As leader of the New Zealand Labour Party, Phil Goff is one of New Zealand’s most prominent individuals. He has held a number of ministerial portfolios, including being the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.Phil grew up in Auckland, and went against his family’s wish for him to start working straight after high school. Instead, he moved out at age 16 and went to the University of Auckland, gaining an MA with first-class honors.
In his video, Phil tells us that we need to take advantage of the opportunities we are given in school now, because they open up routes later in life. Specifically, he says he wishes he had been taught more about financial literacy, and being innovative and entrepreneurial. He’s glad that they’re teaching us more of this in school today – so we really need to take advantages of the opportunities we’ve got.
