Paul Kayser – “Use Your Right Brain”

Paul Kayser calls himself “Head Bastard” of his company CleverBastards. “CleverBastards is a values-based brand expressing Kiwi innovation, passion for design, adventure, a can-do attitude, pride, sustainability and environmental and human respect. And a damned good sense of humour.

Paul has helped to create some of NZ’s most well-know ad campaigns, such as those by Watties Tomato Sauce, Molenberg, Olivani, and Air New Zealand.

Here Paul tells us that we need to learn to use the right side of our brains – the one that does all the creative work.

I think this is a very important message. Our traditional education builds more on the left side brain activities – when we have to learn and give back a huge amount of irrelevant data. The right brain activities are sadly neglected although that side gives the spark of inspiration, creative intuition and new ideas that our outside the box.

All the brilliant initiatives start with a right brain ‘wave’, a gut feeling – that might seem to go against the status quo.
I agree, you should get more in touch with your right brain functions and unleash it through creative work.

Sadly that also means that sometimes you have to go against what you have learned in school and get over some social/cultural complexes/barriers.
