David Huebner – “Be Yourself”

David Huebner is currently the Ambassador of the USA to New Zealand and Samoa. Prior to this, he was a highly regarded lawyer. He gained a higher education degree from Yale Law School.

Here Mr. Huebner shares the lesson to “be yourself”. It’s something we hear often, but something that more people should pay attention to. He makes an incredibly compelling case.

Thank you very much to the Ambassador for taking the time to take this video for us!

I love what Mr. Heubner is saying – in theory. It’s a great simple message for everyone. But i think the reality of the situation can be, for many people, a little more complicated in practice. I’m not saying that everyone cannot and should not “be themselves” but, for example, what if “yourself” is actually “negative” as judged by “successful main stream” environments – as in scared. I think a lot of people hide their insecurities behind a facade of positivity or fake confidence (arrogance) because they know, believe or have learned from experience that insecurities are seen as “weaknesses” and not “successful”. Let’s face it, it takes a lot of positive energy to create and accomplish big things and to build new things. Negative attitudes (self doubt) really can manifest themselves in ways which make it difficult to be successful – truly. And yet it’s a very real thing that most of people – young and old – are afflicted with either periodically or a LOT of the time once they get out of school and have to really make things work for themselves. So how do those of us who happen to have insecurities and doubts get through it so that we can both be “ourselves” AND be “successful” (and make a good impression on those around us)?
